You can love ’em or hate ’em but when it comes down to marketing genius and pushing the right buttons to get a brand noticed, you don’t have to look any further than Marilyn Manson. As the self proclaimed “Antichrist Superstar”, Manson has been indisputably among the most notorious and controversial entertainers since the mid 1990s due to a strong realization that niche marketing his band was what would set him apart from all the wanna-bees.

Drawing upon artistic influences like Alice Cooper and KISS, Manson takes his image to a totally new level by selling his vision based on the dark and often grotesque side of humanity. But if you look beyond the make-up, hair, wardrobe, and overall shock value, it really boils down to a unique approach to hitting a niche market.

If you’re not into his music that’s fine, but if you can take anything away from the shock-rocker, it would be to differentiate your business in some way, find out what you can do to stand out in your market and not casting as wide of a net as you may be doing now. By marketing to a more fine-tuned group of people you are more likely to draw in the clients you’ve been looking for and have not yet found.
