Update your profiles.
Never let the information about you or your business becomes stale. Make a point of updating your profiles at least every few days, and more often if possible.

Post important news.
When something big happens, let the world know. It doesn’t just give you something to post; it also gives your clients and colleagues reason to tune in to your page once in a while, in case you have a major development to share.

Keep – and use – a list of keywords and phrases.

Google, Yahoo, and Bing are all weighing social networking content more heavily these days, so be sure you’re in for sizing your most important search terms.

Start conversations.

Reply to questions and invitations.
It’s easy to ignore old friends, existing clients, or questions put to you online, but the point of these sites is to grow your network. Remember that, and try to follow up to questions and requests within a day or two.

Offer at least one piece of insight.
A good way to endear yourself to friends and customers is by explaining something about your product or industry that they might not have known. Develop a reputation for being insightful, and you’ll develop a following that much more quickly.
